The second season of TIVC has wrapped up, and what a year it has been! This season focused on growth, connection, and most importantly, enjoying volleyball. From spring development camps to competitive tournaments, the energy and enthusiasm from athletes, coaches, and families made this season truly special. Let’s take a closer look at the highlights and memorable moments that defined our journey.

Spring Development Camp Launched the Season

We kicked off the year with a 6-week development camp in the spring. Over 45 athletes joined us, eager to sharpen their skills and build a strong foundation. The camp focused on fundamentals, teamwork, and having fun with the game. It was inspiring to see so many young players grow their confidence and abilities in such a short time.

Summer Camp Brought Energy and Excitement

Our summer camp was a highlight for many participants. With two groups and over 40 athletes, the two-week camp was filled with drills, games, and plenty of volleyball action. The energy was contagious, and the campers built friendships while improving their skills. This camp helped set the tone for the competitive season ahead.

New Gym Spaces Created a Home for Training

This season, we secured two prime gym locations. Having dedicated spaces gave our teams a consistent place to train and develop. It also helped build a stronger sense of community as athletes and coaches gathered regularly in familiar environments. These gyms became the heart of our volleyball activities.

Tryouts and Team Formation Expanded Opportunities

Nearly 70 athletes attended tryouts, which allowed us to form four teams: 14U, 15U, 16U, and 17U. This was one more team than last season, reflecting the growing interest and talent in our program. Each team was carefully selected to balance skill and potential, setting the stage for competitive play.

Competitive Tournaments Tested Our Teams

Each team participated in four OVA-sanctioned tournaments, gaining valuable on-court experience. The 16U team achieved bronze in the Challenge Cup, while the 14U team also earned bronze in the McGregor Cup. Our teams additionally took part in friendly matches for extra practice. These competitions tested the athletes and allowed them to apply their practice learnings in real game situations.

Hosting Tournaments Showed Our Growth

A major milestone was the 16U team hosting their own friendly tournament. Organizing this event was a huge accomplishment and showcased our program’s growth. The 16U team performed impressively, bringing home silver at their hosted tournament . Our 14U and 17U teams also hosted tournaments, further strengthening our community presence.

Coaching Team Expanded with New Leaders

We welcomed several new coaches this season, adding strength and experience to our coaching family:

  • Ashley Perkins — Head Coach, 14U

  • Amy Arthurs — Assistant Coach, 14U

  • Tina Smith — Assistant Coach, 14U

  • Jordan Bernier — Head Coach, 15U

  • Kelly VanderVelde — Assistant Coach, 16U

We were also grateful to have returning coaches Petra Plotz (Assistant Coach, 15U) and Jorie Daymond (Head Coach, 17U). Their leadership helped guide our athletes through a successful season.

Special Moments Beyond the Court

Volleyball is about more than just games and practices. This season, we created many special memories outside the gym. From pumpkin carving events to marching together in our first-ever Santa Claus Parade, the teams bonded and built friendships. Laughter and shared experiences made the season unforgettable.

Ontario Championships Experience

Participating in the Ontario Championships at the Enercare Centre in Toronto was a fantastic experience, especially for many athletes competing at such a huge event for the first time.

The event featured 58 courts in one room, creating an energetic atmosphere that showcased talent and fostered camaraderie among teams.

Over three days, athletes engaged in intense matches and enjoyed themed bonding experiences, including Super Heroes, Pajamas, Safari.

Looking Ahead to Summer and Next Season

Now that the season has ended, we are taking a well-deserved break while planning for summer camps and the next volleyball season. The growth and connections made this year set a strong foundation for continued success. We look forward to welcoming returning athletes and new players to join us in the future.
